Norman Edward Henderson
April 14, 1930 – July 7, 2018
Norman E. Henderson passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family early morning of July 7, 2018, in Happy Valley, Oregon, after a struggle with pancreatic cancer. Norm was born April 14, 1930 in Ellensburg, Washington. He was passionate about church service and lay ministry since his senior year of high school. He led services at Union Gospel Mission with his family and provided leadership as a founding member of Montavilla Baptist Church, Portland Oregon for over 58 years. During his retirement from work Norm became an ordained Chaplin and ministered to those living in extended care facilities. He loved music, both instrumental and vocal, and freely offered his gifts of music to others. Norm was a committed husband, well known among his friends for his prankster behavior. He enjoyed gardening, salmon fishing, carpentry, and woodworking as well as traveling, including frequent motorcycle trips. Norm always shared his skills, abilities, and whatever resources he had available. He supported the work of missions in both word and deed, freely opening his home for to those in need, as well as missionaries on furlough. He strived to ensure that those around him knew the love of God and had a personal relationship with God. A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00pm on July 21, 2018 at Montavilla Baptist Church, Portland, Oregon. Visit www.DignityMemorial.com for photos and to share memories of Norm. He is survived by his wife of 6 years, Lucy; his son, Gerald, daughters Janet [Dan] and Sharon; grandchildren Sarah, and Jonathan. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years Eileen, his mother Helen, and his two brothers Stanley and Clarence.
