In our Hearts Forever
Patricia Lee Alsop (Dorsey) passed away peacefully at home on April 20, 2021, surrounded by her husband, daughter and son. She was born on September 27, 1946, and grew up with parents who moved around the country quite a bit. By the time she graduated from Norte Vista High School in 1964 in Riverside, CA, Pat had attended 16 schools! So much moving had helped make her resilient and be able to talk to anyone. It was an inspiration to watch her walk into a room full of strangers and make friends with everyone.
She moved to Garden Grove, CA, from Riverside in 1975, employed at Newport-Mesa Unified School District (1985-2006) doing a job she loved, first as a classroom teacher’s aide and then in Benefits Administration. Pat administered health benefits for the teachers and developed many friendships over the years and she really loved the complexities of her work. Pat and her husband retired to Gresham, OR, in 2014 to be closer to their son and daughter-in-law.
She loved her family and managed softball teams, went to chorus recitals, track meets, and band and orchestra programs. She instilled a love of culture and music into her children and was so proud when her son became a music teacher. Car rides were always events for blasting Barry Manilow and having impromptu sing-a-longs as she devotedly drove her children to activities all over town.
When her first two grandchildren arrived she became Super Grandma and there was nothing she wouldn't do for them, often to her daughter's chagrin. She was always impressed by their dancing, plays, art, and horse riding skills. She loved doing nails and makeup and spent countless hours reading books and poring over style magazines with them.
She was blessed with a second set of grandchildren later in life. Though she wasn't well by this time in her life she adored them and enjoyed listening to them tell stories, play with boundless energy, and sing their made-up songs. She was even able to see them both dedicated to the Lord in church and witness the finalization of their adoption.
She loved, and was loved by, her husband of 54 years, Chris Alsop. They took trips to Alaska, England, Canada, the Grand Canyon, St Thomas and the Bahamas, among other fun destinations. She knew exactly what she wanted for her family and her husband worked hard to support her vision. She was determined to protect her husband and family and was fierce in her love for them. She believed that Jesus paid for sins on the cross and we know that she is in heaven with Him now.
She leaves behind her loving husband, Chris; her daughter, Kimberly, with son-in-law, Kirk Hobson; her son, Christopher, with daughter-in-law, Tara; her grandchildren, Pailey (with her husband, Daniel Isaacs), Amanda (with her husband, Shawn Thompson), Aidan Alsop, and Adelinn Alsop; and one soon-to-be-born great grandchild. She also has one living sister, Sue Koeller, of Colorado.
Pat was preceded in death by her father, Paul J. Dorsey; her mom, Florence Dorsey; and her sister, Barbara Lubarsky. She was also greeted in heaven by her grandchild Nathaniel and her first great grandchild, Ember.
We will miss the absolute force of nature that she personified, but we rejoice that she is now whole and healed in the presence of Jesus.
A celebration service will be at Harvest Christian Church, Troutdale, OR on Sunday, May 16, 2021 at 3:00 PM. Interment will be at Willamette National Cemetary, Portland, OR on Monday, May 17, 2021 at 1:00 PM.
