Peni Buckland was born September 15th, 1946 in Portland OR and died Wednesday September 26th at Kaiser Sunnyside in Clackamas. She was the foundation of our family and family was her number one love.
She was adopted and raised by Ralph and Eva Bosomworth. She lived in the Portland area her whole life, except one year in Newport Oregon where she took calligraphy and flying lessons. She attended Russellville Elementary School and David Douglas High School. In high school she played the accordion. She met James C Buckland in high school and they married shortly after she graduated in 1964. They had three children Trisha Ann Buckland , Barry Charles Buckland and Summer Christine Buckland. They separated 10 years later.
Peni worked at Montgomery Wards then at Kaiser Sunnyside for over 30 years where she retired. At Kaiser she worked in the lab, surgery scheduling and patient transfer. During her time at Kaiser Peni made many life long friends including her life partner and love of over 40 years, Robert Harris. Peni and Robert explored the world together traveling to a variety of different destinations. Jamaica was a favorite place for the two of them to relax and enjoy the sun and sand. They shared two houses, one in East Portland and spent the last 20 years at the second house in Damascus Oregon. The Damascus house was Peni’s dream house as it had space for large family gatherings for her children and future grandchildren.
Peni love being with family and spending time planning vacations and outings. From camping trips to Pine Hallow and Wikiup, road trips to California, pool parties, Sandy river days, picnics in the park, feeding the ducks/birds at a pond or lake, Christmas Eve parties, bbq’s, annual 4th of July beach trips, family dinners, Portland Beaver baseball games, Duck football tailgates and games.
In addition to Peni’s 3 children she has a daughter-in-law, Julie Buckland, and son-in-law Jeremy Fradet. Peni had 7 grandchildren, Bailey Ann Buckland (22), Ross Wilson (21), Karley Rose Buckland (20), Riley Mae Buckland (13), Preston John Fradet (12), Brady Buckland (11) and Payton Jocelyn Fradet (9). She loved and cared for them all but her grandchildren held a special place in her heart and was the center of her world. Her grandchildren will always remember No Parents Allowed Weekends with no rules, trips to the zoo, OMSI, collecting sea shells and rocks along the shore, attending all their sporting events, and taking them to parades. She created many fun outings and memories for her grandchildren to hold on to forever.
Peni loved everyone - young, old, rich, poor, homeless, and always wanted to hear their story. She cared deeply and taught everyone the true meaning of love.
