My name is Jeffrey Wayne and I was named after "The Duke" John Wayne by my mother, although there was no objection from Dad because he loved "The Duke" too. My dad was sort of a cowboy as most of us know but he was also an adrenaline junkie and sort of a rebel at heart. He always pushed the limits in everything he did, whether he was working on rentals trying to save money or crossing the bar during a small craft advisory. He always said "work hard and play hard". He really epitomized this way of life in its entirety. After the burial we all sat around and told story after story of things he did that were almost unbelievable. Some were of work and some were of play but no matter what he was doing it was as if it were his last day on earth and oh boy was it going to be fun!!!
Dad also liked to fiddle with stuff...he would love to get out his hunting or fishing gear and get ready several days or weeks in advance. 
    When I was a kid I use to brag to my friends about how tough my Dad was. With a name like his he had to be, just to live with it, not only as a teenager but also as a businessman that owned a steel erection company. I once gave a girl his business card and she actually thought it was a practical joke. He told me that during his first few days of high school he actually tried to convince some of his new friends from Benson that his name was Rick or Rich, only to be undone by my grandma yelling "Dickie" at he top of her lungs while he was downstairs with them. He said that was the last time he ever tried going by any other name than "Dick" or "Dickie" He had a unique ability to laugh at himself and he was always ok with it. 
     I don't know if my Dad ever knew that I have never caught a salmon or tuna and the only steel head I caught was the one he hooked then handed me the pole. I never really got hooked on fishing the way he was because I get seasick. I don't like sitting still in a boat  especially if the water is rough. I prefer to go scuba diving and hunt for my fish. This is something dad got me into at age 11. Dad actually won a first place trophy for pole spear fishing at Pacific City. We had several awesome Dive trips to California, Mexico and Hawaii while growing up.
      My fondest memories are of the family at our old cabin near Maupin and the Deschutes river. All of us together just having fun hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles and helping each other pack out a whopper mule deer...or as Dad liked to say "Rack em up!" We also had some great times backpacking and horseback riding in the Eagle Cap Wilderness.
      Needless to say Dad always made Chad and I his top priority. When we were with him as kids he always had a way of making things exciting even if it meant speeding on Hwy 84 because we were late for Church at Central Bible. Several times as kids he let us ride our dirt bikes to church in Maupin from the cabin which is about 20 miles away...as a kid this was too cool!
    One of my favorite sayings is "the objective in life is to die young...as late as possible!" That's my Dad... always so full of life, even when he was injured or hurting he didn't complain much, he always sucked it up and moved forward. In the Navy we use to say that pain was weakness leaving the body...keep calm and carry on. These are some of the words I think of when I think of him now...tough as nails and fearless.
     I am very much at peace knowing that he was doing the one thing he loved more than anything else. Hunting Elk in the Snake river with some of his closest friends. I spoke to him the night before and he was "giddy as a school boy" to borrow a quote from Indiana Jones and the last crusade. He had hit an Elk opening day and chased it for 2 days only to have it get away. He was sure it was a flesh wound and the Elk was probably going to be ok. I know he is now with the Almighty in Paradise hunting with his Dad and Fishing with Uncle Dan and Uncle Sam.
     John 17:26 AMP I have made your name known to them, and will continue to make it known so that the love with which you have loved me may be in them (overwhelming their heart) and I (may be) in them.
     My Dad always Loved helping people especially the less fortunate... the last 20 years he went on many mission trips. Several with our cousin Steve Rosier to Mexico, Haiti, Lebanon and the Philippines. I think these are the trips that really mattered the most to him and how he would like to be remembered... his "Legacy" if you will. I hope to continue in my fathers footsteps by getting more involved in these and other missions. Dad built Churches and Shelters for widows and orphans, as well as gathering books for his friends in Haiti. He was and always will be "My Hero"!

James 1:27 Religion that our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after widows in their distress and keep oneself from being polluted by the world.


A) You (Dick) taking me to Colorado on my first out of state hunt.  I didn't drive fast enough for you because of the schedule, but we both got Elk with muzzleloaders.  It was a great week -just the two of us!  B) Many weekends fixing up the Cabin when we got a 10 year extension on the lease. C) You took Parry & I Sturgeon fishing -and we caught a 9' MONSTER!  D) Working w/for you & Gary in 1988.  You taught me SO MUCH about construction -thank you!  E) Packing out a HUGE Buck, you standing at the truck, yelling at me to just get it up the steep hill to the winch cable.  You inspired me to do more than I though I could (and/or maybe should!) F) The "09 Snake" hunt where it was just the 2 of us. Your amazing 824 yard shot & getting scope eye X3!  G) Working at Portland State -Sky Bridge job and you broke your leg but kept working for several hours more.  H) Countless days hunting & fishing Alaska, the Cabin & 1988 trip to the Steens Mts. together.  See you soon Cousin!

There’s a big void, as Dick was an icon in the Teeny family. Thank you to Kenny, Kylie, Jordan, Jack, Greg, Tanner, & Derek for your heroic efforts on that mountain. We can’t thank you enough. This is true of Dick: 2 Timothy 4:7-8 “I have fought long & hard for my Lord, & through it all I have kept true to him. Now the time has come for me to stop fighting & rest.” Philippians 4:4-7 was Dick: “My beloved friends, stay true to the Lord.” Always be full of joy in the Lord, I say it again, rejoice!  Let everyone see that you are unselfish & considerate in all you do. Remember that the Lord is coming soon. Don’t worry about anything, instead, pray about everything, tell God your needs & don’t forget to thank him for his answers. If you do this you will experience God‘s peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will keep your thoughts & your hearts quiet & at rest as you trust in Jesus.”  Dick was full of joy, unselfish, considerate & thankful to God.  That’s who he was. His passing reminds us, we don’t know when we will leave this earth & we need to be make every day count for Jesus & our loved ones. Dick was a dear friend always helping others or going on 1 more mission trip. He put his time & money where his heart was. These words are Dick: Outgoing, Relentless, Energized, Lousy Camp Cook (have you had 1 of his mustard sandwiches?) Risk Taker, Daring, Kind, Unselfish, Giver, Friend, & my personal favorite, TIGER!  All the hunting, fishing & mission trips… He's 11 years older than me & I couldn't keep up with him! Seriously what a TIGER! Here are a few things Dick was NOT very good at: raising his voice, getting mad at you, walking away from work when it needed to be done, (unless he was going hunting or fishing!) saying no when asked to volunteer, & frankly he could've used better discretion at choosing his friends; He hung around all of us characters! Need I say more? As Dickie said: “Everybody’s weird once you get to know them!

Dick used the gifts & talents God gave him to serve the Lord & to help others - at least MOST of the time...  Unfortunately, SOMETIMES he used those talents to out-shoot us, out-fish us and often outsmart us, that turkey!  
Are we using the gifts & talents God gave us to make a difference in the lives of others?  Whether going to Haiti (like Dick loved to do) or staying home & living out Jesus with our neighbor...  Are we making every day count?  
Jeremiah 29:11 says: “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to give you hope & a future”.  The Bible has much insight on man’s purpose on this earth & how to live a meaningful life.  Saint Francis of Assisi said it best, “Preach the Gospel & if necessary, use words”.  What does that really mean? Don't just preach to people, but live your life as an example so people ask “What makes you different?” It's called earning the right to be heard. Dick did not need to use a lot of words to communicate JESUS. He earned the right to be heard loud & clear. 
In Romans 10:9-10 God says, “If you confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord & believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe & are justified, & it is with your mouth that you confess & are saved.” Living a good life won't get us into Heaven.  Going to church every Sunday, and being kind to others won’t get us into Heaven.  What gets us into Heaven is humbling ourselves, admitting our faults & believing that God’s perfect Son paid the price for us on the cross to bring us back to God.  Tell Him: "Jesus, I am putting my faith in you." Forgiveness through Jesus is a gift.  Receive the gift!  Don’t wait until it’s too late.  Dickie did not wait & HE’S WITH JESUS!  Lucky guy... I can’t wait to be reunited with him when we get to Heaven...

My beautiful cousin Dick  had passion for Jesus & for life.  He lived fearlessly, was an adventurer & enjoyed God‘s beautiful creation.  His zest for life & love for Jesus & people took him all over the world. He went to Haiti many times & to Lebanon w/ his cousins to help care for refugees who needed Jesus. Dick seemed like a cowboy to me... strong & active, fearlessly adventurous & enjoyed the simple things in life. He fished the Columbia & the Pacific Ocean off OR & AK. He hunted many states...Deer, elk, & antelope, pheasants, chuckers, quail, ducks & geese. He had a grateful heart & a sweet spirit. Dick always prayed, "Thank you God for the wonderful country we live in & the great freedom we have." He prayed for our gov't leaders & consistently thanked God for Jesus's sacrifice on the cross.  As we celebrate Dick’s life & honor his memory, we realize Dick's big heart & wonderful qualities were a reflection of God's work in him. Dick's relationship w/ God affected how he spent his time, why he travelled to foreign lands, & his joy & fearless spirit. It’s times like these when we ponder the brevity of life, the reality of death & what our beliefs are about that. Here is the truth that Dick knew & would want you to know. We make it complicated, but it's not... God created us to be with him.  Our mistakes separate us from God & can't be fixed by our own good deeds. Paying the price for our sins, God’s (perfect) Son Jesus died, & rose again, then hung around 40 more days to prove he was alive. Everyone who trusts in Him alone has eternal life. Life w/ Jesus starts now & lasts forever. Dick knew his failings, but he also knew his need for a Savior & he appreciated Christ's forgiveness. That's why he could tell Lanea he thought he'd die first & not be troubled by it. That's why he could sit w/ Kenny looking over the beautiful mtns in the Snake River Canyon & say he could die there & be happy. Because he had peace w/ God.  Thank you Jesus. Thank you he is safe with you.

Everyone who knew Dick, "Uncle Dickie" as we called him, recognized that family always came first.  He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and was a joy to his mother in law Carol.  I was especially touched by his support for my daughter Meredith-- "Mere Bear."  He and aunt Lanea celebrated Mere Bear's accomplishments such as her graduation from high school and college, and they were always there for her.  When my wife Terry was battling cancer,  he was so kind and generous with his time and understanding.  I cannot thank him enough for all he did for us.  Although he was my brother in law I came to regard him as my brother.  But Dick was more than just a family man.  He was a true Christian who "walked the walk" in his everyday interactions and through his missionary work in Haiti and elsewhere.  I will sincerely miss Dickie and the way he used to call me "Larry Boy."  Dick had a way of reassuring us, as if to say, take it easy...just keep calm and carry on.  I wish he were here now.  We love you Dickie... God Bless You.

The guy who always comes alongside to build you up and encourage  you.  And NEVER ONCE said or acted like I shouldn't do something because I was a women.  Working with him at the office.  Fishing on the Deschutes.  Learning to ski- he taught me how to ski.  Meeting him at the Grand Canyon when he took his mom there.  Making pies at his house because they were his favorite.  Halibut fishing with him.  Telling me all about his new girlfriend Lanea on the way up to Mt. Hood.   

One of my most vivid memories  was of uncle having me come over to fix his computer he was having some trouble with.  It only took a couple of hours, but after I was done he gave me a HUNDRED DOLLARS.  I told him it was too much, but he insisted saying that's how much the Geek Squad at Best Buy was going to charge him.  In that moment uncle Dickey saw me as worthy and I felt it.  I hope I can make people feel like he made me feel on that day.  All of my love,  Daniel Teeny

He took me fishing on the Deschutes River I remember walking for what seemed to be hours along those train tracks.  I think we parked on the out skirts of Maupin?  It must of been like 4am dark outside and we walked and walked and walked.  As soon as it started to get light out Dick said well here we are I still couldn't see anything, but I could hear the river.  He showed me how to rig my line cuz I never fished for steelhead before.  We limited out in only a few hours and I ended up catching the biggest fish.  It was a trip I will never forget.  Thank Dick

Dick is the only Teeny I know who aged and never lost the hair on the top of his head.  

There was a 1940 Chevy truck.  There was an owner of the truck it had been his grandfathers.  The truck was in Creswell "Sure we can move it"  with unbounded strength and grit and wit that pick up got moved and delivered.  What a guy!  

I was in Haiti Jamica Mexico and the Philipnes with Dick.  I will always remember after 30 hours of plane travel and a 4 hour ride in a van from our final destination in tacloban to Ormoc City with a driver that I am sure would have been very successful on the Nascar circuit.  Dick and I had to carry our luggage up three flights of stairs to our hotel room.  Dick and I sat down on our beds Dick looked at me pulled a bottle of pills out of his pocket and said if I pass out would you please put one of these pills under my tongue.  I thought to myself, this is a brave man.  Blessings, Mark and Janet Lawrence  

Uncle Dickey certainly taught me the value of hard work in life.  I'll never forget two big things though how I was able to help others through kindness and the time he gave me an entire gym set.  That time changed my life It will serve as a strong memory to me and when I look in the mirror at I'm tone every day now.  I'm thankful someone helped me get there and I owe them one.   

As a kid I remember Dickie and Gary and Mitch  coming to our house for hunting planning meetings.  My dad would always remind my mom to brew some coffee, which she generally already had going.  They would all sit in the kitchen discussing their lists and ketchup was always mentioned first.  I remember Dickie and Gary would sip on their coffee and my mom would always offer them something to eat which they all said the didn't need and then she would put out a plate of something sweet, cookies or pastries and they always ate the sweets!  I loved to listen to them all talk and laugh about all their year of fun.

One time over hunting he had shot a nice buck and couldn't find it.   True to form because Ricky had shot one he went to help he got Fred and I and we went to help find Dick's buck.  I found the buck and he was so happy as I had it gutted by the time he got there.  We clicked and had many good conversations involving our precious lord and savior.  We never did make it tuna fishing together but came close last year.  He will be greatly missed.  He truly valved relationships as I did.  Bruce

I will miss most of all Dick's kindness.  He was always thinking of me, bringing arm fulls of fresh seafood which we enjoyed so much.  I will miss feeding him Lebanese food and watching him enjoy eating it.  I've already thought of him as I am making his favorite foods.  I can hear his words, "Sue, you are a tiger!"  I know he is in heaven keeping an eye on us and Bill.  God wants all ages of angels, and Dickey was chosen-  All my love Sue Teeny

A few memories I have are tough to choose.  Two special memories come to my mind first I got to spend my honeymoon in Alaska fishing with my hubby and Dickie.  Not to many people can say that.  The other memory that I always think about is the time we went crabbing out of long beach, we caught lots of crab.  When we got back to the dock Dickie wanted to clean the crabs before we cooked them and as a result I got my first really bad crab pinch on the finger.  Oh boy it hurt!

One of my best memories of Dick was the first time he took me fishing on the Kenai River.  We fished all night and caught some very big salmon.  I loved it so much I bought a boat and have been fishing the Kenai ever since.  20  years now!  Pete Nelson

All of his sayings keep running in my mind "could be my last trip" is the one that is hard to believe at this point.  "Can't rewind a watch, get the most of life while your here"...  Those guys over there are getting more fish .. should we move?  Man I miss him but he is still and always going to bring a smile to my face.  I love you guys,  Dale 

A true friend who will be remembered forever.  Many hunting and fishing trips with many memories.  The only time he would stop was to take a nap.  I miss Dicky and think of him always.  Bill

"What a tiger!"  "Atta Boy"  "It was a whopper".  "Going shad fishing, boys wanna come?"  watching him sit in the corner with a smug smile and twinkle in his eye, laughing inside at everyone.  I'm going to miss my brother Dick but he's having fun in heaven with my dad.  

We went fishing out of Newport and my husband was very excited because it was his first time fishing in Oregon Oceans.  He caught his first Halibut and tons of crabs.  We ate fresh crab under the bridge.  Really great times. 

The only person who called me "Mary Girl"  The twinkle in his eyes like he was always up to something.  Bill and Mary Smith

Uncle Dickie always had such a warmth about him.  He always referred to me as "Mere Bear" my dad "Larry Boy".  Anytime I visited he wanted to make sure I was comfortable and felt welcome.I always enjoyed hearing all of his stories even tough his lifestyle was so foreign to me.  Great story teller!  Love and miss you  Uncle Dick  Love Meredith 

I will miss so many things about Dick.  His kind smile, laugh and grin paired with his sparkling blue eyes.  I can still hear his voice and words "Heyah Sonia"  and "atta girl".  He had so many great qualities that dad also had: genuine, wise, caring, sincere, authentic and best off all warm.  He was always interesting and fun to talk to.  I will miss sharing and hearing stories.  I can feel him smiling down on us from heaven.  Love always- Sonia your sister

I always smile when thinking of the dinner party you put together for uncle Dan's daughter Katy.  It was one of many loving acts that you and Dickie performed. 

Thank you for how you would welcome us into your home and with such love during the Christmas holidays.  Wonderful food and conversation- we always will remember this at the holidays.  David and Judy (JR)

You always took time to listen and respond which always made me feel like you were keenly interested in what I was telling you.  You gave me time and looked at me when I spoke with you.  I never felt like you had someplace else to be or to go.  Thank you for showing me that quality.  I love you Dicky 

Dickie changed how I hunt.  I got so tired of getting back to camp before him.  It's the first and last 15 minutes of everyday rain or snow.  He set the bar high!  He was a TIGER!

He was such a kind and caring person who always had a twinkle in his blue eyes.  I will miss you dearly!
