Robert Alvin “Bob” Downing, 69 of Gresham, passed away on Saturday, July 14, 2012. He was born on January 2, 1943 in Terre Haute, Indiana to John Robert and Francis Opal (Vandivier) Downing. He moved to Portland, Oregon in 1958 and then to Gresham in 1971. He married Suzanne Mary Quinn on July 18, 1964 in Portland, Oregon. He worked as a greyhound trainer and then served as a military policeman in the U. S. Army. He owned and operated Robert Downing Construction for over forty years before his retirement in 2000. He loved Texas Hold’Em, camping with his boys and time spent with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Suzanne Downing of Gresham OR; sons Steven Downing (Misty) of Vancouver WA, Jason Downing (Dilbar) of Gresham OR and Brian Downing (Rhya) of Seattle WA and nine grandchildren.
A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held at 11:00am on Friday, July 20, 2012 at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W. Powell Blvd in Gresham, Oregon. Private interment at Willamette National Cemetery.
