Robert Dale (Bob) Holman passed away on November 11, at the age of 84. Born on April 26, 1941, in Redfield, South Dakota, he was the son of Eleanor and Albert Holman. He graduated from Redfield High School in 1959. A year after graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, spending one year of his service in Germany. After his military service, Bob attended Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota, where he met his wife, Karen, and received a degree in Industrial Technology. Bob worked for Indian Health Service for 23 years, retiring in 1989.
Bob had many interests and loves throughout his life, including skiing, hiking, traveling and long road trips to visit family and friends, photography, sketching, cars, cooking (especially pizza), and woodworking. He was skilled at designing and building houses and remodeling whole rooms using his woodworking and carpentry skills. He constructed many pieces of their furniture and the cabinets in their kitchen, all of which were his own designs. His greatest love, however, was for Karen, his wife of 59 years, and his family and friends. He was a loving and caring son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend, and he will be dearly missed.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, Gary. He is survived by his wife, Karen, and their two children, Jennifer (Michael) Holman-Dodds of Stoughton, WI, and Jeremy (Sarah) Holman of Salem, OR; five grandchildren, Lukas, Klara, and Isaak Dodds; and Ruby and Frances Holman; and his sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews, and other cherished family members and friends.
Interment and military rites will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon. In accordance with Bob’s wishes, there will be no other service.
