Robert was the first-born child to Newman and Barbara Kimes in Lakeview, Oregon. He grew up with his brother and parents throughout Oregon and California. In 1970's Newman and family purchased land and built a home in Corbett, OR. After graduating from Madison High School in Portland, Robert went on to study several topics at Oregon State University. He enjoyed many extra curricular activities, including joining Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He proudly served as president of the Beta Nu chapter in Corvallis from 1975.
After college, Bob joined the Laborers Union before ultimately joining the United Association Plumbers and Steamfitters Union and working his way up to training coordinator, which is a role he held for seventeen years. As a journeyman plumber, he worked on several notable local projects in his career including the US Bancorp "Big Pink" Tower, Justice Center, and Intel. Bob was a certified instructor and also served on the Oregon State Plumbing Board. Bob was a proud member of the UA for forty-seven years before enjoying his retirement to the fullest. He filled his time with his beloved daughters and treasured kitty companions, along with golf trips, skiing, honing his skills on the Traeger, and more golfing.
His love is the definition of "unconditional" for his family and pets alike. Robert is survived by daughters Laura Klever (34) and Katherine Kimes (32), who will miss him greatly. He is also survived by his brother, John Kimes (70) of Fairview, OR.
In lieu of flowers (which our cats will eat) or donations, we ask that you take a moment to hug a loved one, share a meal around the table, and shower your pets with affection. Time waits for no one, so embrace the time we have.
Per Robert's wishes, a celebration of life will be held at the United Association Local 290 Training Center in Tualatin, OR on Saturday, June 28th at 1 o'clock in the afternoon. All that wish to honor and celebrate his life, family, and good times are welcome.
