OBITUARY

Roberta "Bert or Berta" Jean (Rueck) Garrison

February 5, 1938October 2, 2021

Beloved wife, mom, grandmother, aunt and friend

Roberta or Berta as some called her was born in Portland Oregon to John E. Rueck and Lydia (lily) Schneider. Roberta was raised on the Rueck family farm with aunts, uncles and cousins in Scholl’s, Oregon. They had cows, lots of chickens, fields of filberts and walnuts. Roberta’s mother died from leukemia when she was just 9. Her father John married Margaret Mills a few years later. They gave Roberta 2 bothers, Ken and Paul and 3 sisters, Margaret, Sheryl and Janice.

Roberta graduated from Hillsboro HS in 1956. Her first marriage was in 1960. She had 2 children Karen and Duane. Her second marriage was to Richard Garrison in 1979. His 3 boys Richard, Jim and Ervin and Daughter Charity became part of her family.

Roberta was as secretary for an insurance company out of HS. She was a stay at home mom and also helped run the family refrigeration business. Her last job was with Kault MFG. She retired at 59 and moved to Nehalem, Oregon. She loved the small town life, the clean air and view of the coast range. Roberta moved to Gresham, Oregon in 2013 where she has lived until she passed.

Roberta loved to be outdoors gardening or “cleaning the forest” some would say. She loved camping and clamming, but wouldn’t eat them, traveling to Eastern Oregon to go elk hunting. She and Richard made several summer trips to Alaska to fish, clam and enjoy time with family and friends. They also spent a few months every winter in Arizona where the weather was much warmer and dryer than the Oregon coast. Roberta was a great cook. Some of the family favorites were her Meat Loaf, Kraut Baroque, Berry Cobbler, Chicken Noodle Soup, Chocolate Haystacks and her Munchie mix (Chex).

Roberta also liked to quilt, knit and embroider. She was very good at all three. You could turn the piece over and the stitching on the back looked as nice as the front.

Roberta loved her grand children Andrew, Matthew, Daniel and Ashley, Lori, Kerri and Amy very much. They were a big part of her life as were her great grandchildren Carson, Dominic, Dean, Cora and Alton.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband Richard and a sister, Sheryl. There will be a Celebration of Life at Bateman Carrolls funeral home on October 29th at 1:00pm. She will be laid to rest next to her husband, Richard at the Nehalem American Legion Cemetery.

A memorial service for Roberta will be held Friday, October 29, 2021 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W Powell Blvd, Gresham, OR 97030.

I remember when my mom, Lori, and I came up for Charity’s wedding when I was about 4 or 5. We stayed at grandma’s house on the hill, and one day we were out on the deck blowing bubbles and grandma was swatting them out of the air making me laugh. Later that day she made her blackberry cobbler and we all sat around her little table together. That was one of my favorite visits to see grandma Roberta. I loved her so much and cannot wait to see her again
