When WWII broke out, Ruth moved to Salem, OR, where she worked for the Civil Service, before going to Washington, DC to work for the Department of the Navy. Later moving back to Oregon, she worked many years for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service as a budget analyst until she retired.

She leaves behind eight nieces and nephews and her daughter-in-law, Rochelle (Shelly) Corbett, and her husband David Corbett, both of whom cared for her for many years.
