Sheila Kay Currie was born on October 22, 1945 in Bremerton, Washington to Jack and Helen Dorgan. They moved to Butte, Montana where Sheila attended school and graduated from Butte High School. Sheila graduated from Montana State University with a degree in education. She went on to teach 4th and 6th grade classes in Butte and Bozeman, Montana.
In 1968 she married Mark Currie in Bozeman, Montana. Soon after, they moved to Oxnard Shores, California where they had their daughter Lynette. In 1974 she moved with her family to the beautiful state of Oregon.
Growing up in Montana, Sheila loved camping, fishing, hiking and skiing. In retirement she loved canoeing, traveling and RVing, especially along the Oregon Coast, Big Sur and Carmel, California.
Sheila was an avid craft person, a passion she shared with her many great friends. She would often work late into the night working with paper crafts, sewing, quilting or macramé. It didn't matter what kind of craft it was, Sheila was always ready to give it a try. For a number of years she taught craft classes at Craft Warehouse where she also made many lifelong friends.
Sheila is survived by her husband of 55 years, Mark and her daughter, Lynette who both miss her deeply. She is further survived by her sister, Rita Drain and her daughter, Kerry; brother-in-law, John Currie and his wife, Michelle; her nieces and nephews, Lisa and Lane Mills, and their children, Royce and MacKenzie; Jennifer Currie, David Currie, Trenton and Jackie Currie and their newborn, Theodore; and close family friend, Kristen Olson.
Sheila's outgoing and enthusiastic personality will be deeply missed by her family and friends. In remembrance of Sheila donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association and the American Diabetes Association. We are deeply grateful to Karina and Michelle for the incredible and loving care they gave to Sheila while she was in their care. Also to Darline, her Hospice nurse, for the excellent care and guidance she gave Sheila for both her diabetes and Alzheimer's.
A celebration of Sheila's life will be held, and the details will be announced at a later date.
