Shirley Ann Baker

The family gives their deepest thanks for physician Amy Stivers and all the skilled professionals and staff for their loving care during her short stay. But most importantly her devoted daughter, Janelle for her unwavering loving care over Shirley's later years.

Shirley was born on March 16, 1933 in rural Gresham, Oregon to Rosswell William Marston and Vira Agnes Douglas, and was the youngest of six children. Her father passed away ten years later leaving her and her mother on their own as the older siblings had left home. She spent her whole life in Gresham graduating from Gresham High School in 1951. She married her high school sweetheart Darrell Duane Baker later that fall. Together they raised six children.

Shirley loved homemaking, gardening, and babysitting her grandchildren. Stray cats would show up on her doorstep, and she welcomed each one of them with the remaining years of their little lives. After many years of service for the Salvation Army Gresham retail store, she retired. Her later years were spent enjoying family and friends, and a cherished cruise to Alaska. She enjoyed her fellowship with Calvary Baptist Church Gresham, led by Pastor Augie Saucedo.

She was an angel to many who needed a warm meal and place to stay. Never judgemental and always happy to help.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings, and children, Cathryn, Craig, and Daniel. Her survivors include her children, Jeffrey, Kim, and Janelle; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren. Each one felt her love and concern.

"Somewhere over the rainbow, bluebirds fly, Birds fly over the rainbow, why then, oh why can't I?"

A visitation for Shirley will be held Thursday, July 17, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W Powell Blvd, Gresham, Oregon 97030. A funeral service will occur Friday, July 18, 2025 at 12:30 PM, 520 W Powell Blvd, Gresham, Oregon 97030. A graveside service will occur Friday, July 18, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 400 SW Walters Drive, Gresham, Oregon 97080.
