

Shirley was born to Orvil and Mercy Lamon on a farm near Manton Michigan. He was the youngest of three children, Bernadine and Bernard. The family moved out west in 1941 to Castle Rock, WA on a visit, as you know Dec. 7th changed a lot of things. Orvil worked at Fort Lewis WA for a while then in the shipyard in Tacoma WA. Shirl worked there too during the summer months.
Shirl graduated from Lincoln High School in 1945. He was drafted into the ATW U4 February 1945. He spent 16 weeks in Camp Roberts California. Shirl went over seas on August 20'" 1945, to the Philippine Islands. In 1946 he was sent to the Air Force in Guam. There he made the rank of Sergeant. He came home in October 1946; in June 1947 he joined the Air Force Reserve at Portland Air Base for 10 years where he made the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was honorable discharged in 1959.
In 1949 Shirl married Gretha Horttor, they had 3 children Gene (1Q 50), Barbara (1951) and John (1952). They divorced 7 years later. Shirl worked hauling logs for 8 years.
In 1958 he married Virginia Palmer they had 1 son Randall (Randy) born 1960. They were divorced later. A short time later he married Susan Douglas, divorced later.
In 1958 Shirl started his apprenticeship in the electrical trade; 4 years later became a journeyman. He worked for Ace Electric for 17 years. He ran a few jobs for them, retired in 1988 after 30 years in the Electrical business.
While working as an electrician he met Gloria, they married in 1980, the best years of his life. In 1973 they built the Honey House. After putting in all the blocks himself, he finally finished the structure. They raised lots of honeybees, and put them in many many places for pollination. Both Shirl and Gloria would collect swarms of bees, got stung a few times. Shirl would sometimes go to California to get packages of bees. Gloria sold honey at The Gresham Farmers Market and our home for more than twenty years. She also sold honey at the Hood River Harvest festival. For fun Gloria and friends would go to Reno, NV. to relax and gamble. Gloria passed away on Sept. 15, 2005 of heart problems at the age of 71. Gloria was known as the HONEY LADY to lots of people.
Shirl has proceeded in death of his parents, brother, sister and son John. Shirl has sold his property and Honey business to Peter and Vicki Morrison. Shirl will live on th e property for the rest of his life. He is a hunter and a gambler in different casinos around the area. He also works on honeybee box frames to sell in his spare time.
His sons Gene Pelton, Randall Lam on, his daughter Barbara Pelton, 5 step Children; Ricky Adams, Ron Adams, Vicki Morrison, Cathy Clear, and Barbara Collins, along with many wonderful grandchildren and great-grandchildren survive him.
Shirl’s final resting place will be Willamette National Cemetery next to his beloved wife Gloria, and with full Military Honors.
