Wilhelm Heckel, age 79, was taken home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday October 15, 2012 at St. Vincent Medical Center. He was recovering from a heart attack. He was born August 10, 1933 in Odessa, Ukraine. By God’s miracles they escaped the upheaval of World War II and came to Germany, settling down in Northern Germany on the Island of Fehmarn. He learned his trade of cabinet maker and carpenter in Germany.
In 1957 the family immigrated to the United States. On April 4, 1964 he married Ida Wagner. They bought a farm in the Boring area where they grew raspberries and strawberries for 38 years. Many people in this vicinity remember picking berries at the Heckel Berry Farm on Kelso Road. After his retirement he kept busy with different projects. He loved to spend time with his family and his pride and joy were his grandchildren. He also enjoyed salmon fishing in Tillamook Bay. He is survived by his wife, Ida, of 48 years, two daughters Elizabeth deJesus and Margaret Lemmer, and their families, and his brothers Oswald Heckel and Alex Heckel, Sr.
A memorial service will be held at Sandy Baptist Church on Saturday October 27th, 2012 at 2:00pm. Bateman Carroll Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
