

Mrs. Dorothy (Dot) Stanfield Crowder, age 90, died on August 31, 2016 at Brightmoor Hospice. She was born in Griffin on August 15, 1926, daughter of the late Mr. M. A. Stanfield and Addie Goodson Stanfield. The family moved to Barnesville while she was an infant and lived there until she was in high school when, upon the death of her father, her mother moved the family back to Griffin.
Mrs. Crowder graduated from the old Spalding High School in 1942. Her working career included 17 years with the Boy Scouts of America. In 1972 she became associated with Petro South, formerly OK Oil, as administrative Assistant to Gerald Lawhorn, where she has remained for forty-four years.
She was a longtime member of Griffin First United Methodist Church where she served on various committees throughout the years. She was a member of the Joy Sunday School class, former choir member, former chairman of the Wedding Committee, Church Council, Finance Committee, and Sunday School Superintendent. She was a member of the Women of the Moose, American Business Club and Chamber of Commerce.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Crowder and her brother, Robert Stanfield. She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law Kathy Chappell Kunkel and Steve of Jonesboro; Jennifer Chappell Gillespie and Jim of Loganville; four grandchildren, Liz Kunkel of Miami and Christi Kunkel of Jonesboro; Logan Creel of Atlanta and Lauren Creel of Loganville; Sister Frances West of Atlanta; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Crowder will be held at Griffin First United Methodist Church on
Saturday, September 3, 2016, at 2 p.m. Friends may call on the family prior to the service at 1 p.m. in the Parlor at Griffin First United Methodist Church.
Interment will follow the service at the Stanfield Family plot in Greenwood Cemetery in Barnesville, GA.
The family extends their utmost gratitude to the caregivers at Brightmoor Hospice and also her Brightmoor Senior Living Family, where she had lived since October, 2015, for their love and support.
