

Elizabeth Swint “Miss Betty” was born in Waynesboro, GA on November 19, 1917, and passed away on October, 7, 2016. She was the daughter of Jerrie Allen Taylor and Mamie Hardy Taylor. She had five sisters, Daisy, Nell, Mace, Jerry, and Virginia, and two brothers, Gene and William Taylor, who pre-deceased her. She graduated from Waynesboro High School in 1931. Miss Betty was married to the late Roger Herman Swint, Sr., for 62 years. Her son Jerry Albert Swint pre-deceased her. Miss Betty is survived by one son, Roger Herman Swint, Jr. (Brenda). She is survived by four granddaughters, Charlotte Elizabeth Swint, Amanda Carol Swint Boutelle (Brian), Allison Lee Swint, and Lauren Elizabeth Swint Hall (Travis) as well as four great-grandchildren, Duncan Boutelle, Elizabeth Boutelle, Cassidy Danel, and Hunter Hall. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. Miss Betty graduated from Massey Business School. She worked for Western Union in Jacksonville, FL, transcribing telegrams. One of her co-workers introduced her to Herman Swint he was visiting his family in Jacksonville. Miss Betty rode the Flamingo Train from Jacksonville, FL, to Orchard Hill, GA, to visit Herman and his family until he decided “it would just be cheaper for them to get married.” They lived on Swint Road in Orchard Hill, GA, in the house that they built in 1938. Miss Betty worked at the Swint Store, and she also worked at the Orchard Hill Post Office where she retired after 23 years of service. Miss Betty was a devoted member of the Griffin First United Methodist Church and was a member of the Arthur Maddox Sunday School Class and the Faith Circle. Miss Betty was very active in her community. She was a past president of The Utility Club of Griffin. She was a Master Bridge Player, and was a member of several Bridge Clubs. She was a member of the Elks Lodge Ladies’ Auxiliary. She was a member of First Friends and Young at Heart. Miss Betty loved to dance, to laugh, and to travel. She loved her many, many friends dearly. She loved her family, who she called her kinfolks, dearly. Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Swint will be held at the Griffin First United Methodist Church at 2:00 o’clock in the afternoon on Monday, October 10, 2016. The family will greet friends at the church two hours before the service. Interment will follow in the Old Section of Oak Hill Cemetery. Should friends desire, donations may be made in her memory to the First United Methodist Church of Griffin- Amick Fund or the Building Fund. Haisten McCullough Funeral Home, 1155 Everee Inn Road is in charge of arrangements.
