Gwendolyn Joyce Howard

She was born in Griffin, March 9, 1924 to the late Jarret Wells Howard and Susie Gilmer Howard. She was preceded in death by two brothers, J. Floyd Howard and V. Ray Howard.

Joyce was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Griffin where she was a loyal member of the Morgan Sunday School Class. She served on the board of Deacons, taught Sunday School , was a member of First Baptist XYZ Club and served on various committees of the church. She also taught Sunday School lessons at Summer’s Landing Assisted Living Home. Joyce was a long time member of Griffin Business and Professional Women’s Club of Griffin and served as President of the Georgia Federation BPW in 1978. She retired from Dundee Mills after 54 years as Accounts Receivable Manager and Supervisor.

Survivors include her sister, Ann H. Hubbard of Covington, GA; sister-in-law, Polly Howard of Griffin; nieces and nephews, Mark Howard of Lilburn, GA, Greg Howard of Atlanta, GA, Terri H. Cooper of Jacksonville, FL, Scott Hubbard of Covington, GA, Mayes Howard of Peachtree City, GA, Steve Howard of Griffin, Danae Stanley of Stockbridge and Tina Bast of Griffin, and 12 great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Miss Gwendolyn Joyce Howard will be held Friday, January 25, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Griffin First Baptist Church. Dr. Bill Hardee and Rev. Brian McCartney will officiate. Interment will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit the family on Thursday, January 24, 2013 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to the Griffin First Baptist Church, 106 W. Taylor St., Griffin, GA 30224 in memory of Miss Howard.
