

Mr. Garrett was born July 19, 1917 in Griffin to the late Eddie Lee Garrett and the late Bessie Jane Upshaw Garrett. He retired as Senior Master Sergeant for the U.S. Air Force having served during WWII & the Korean War, participated in the war campaign in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and central Europe and served in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. He was a charter member of the VFW Post 5448 where he served as Commander for several years and was an avid golfer. Mr. Garrett was preceded in death by a grandson, Mike Riggs.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Winnie Garrett of Griffin; daughters, Lucy Jo Riggs of Wisconsin, Kimberly Garrett of Stockbridge, Susan Garrett of Rex; sons & daughter-in-law, Jack C. Garrett of Wisconsin and Preston & Beverly Garrett of Griffin; grandchildren, Garrett Rodriguez, Andrew Garrett, Taylor Garrett, Kelly Riggs, Scott Riggs, Mark Riggs, Steve Riggs and Collin Riggs and 5 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Garrett will be held Sunday, May 8, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Haisten McCullough Funeral Home. Rev. Terry Butler will officiate. Interment will follow in the Veterans Section in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit the family on Saturday, May 7, 2011 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the VFW Post 5448, W. Poplar St., Griffin, GA 30223 in memory of Mr. Garrett.
