

Mr. Thornton was born December 1, 1922 in Griffin son of the late James Wright Thornton and the late Alberta Hamric Thornton. He was a member of Griffin First United Methodist Church where he was a life time member of the church choir and the Joy Sunday School Class. Mr. Thornton retired from Dundee Mills after 47 years of service. He was a member of the Griffin Kiwanis Club, Tara Beekeepers Association where he was Beekeeper of the year in 2010 and a member of the Henry County Beekeepers Association. Mr. Thornton was preceded in death by his wives, Martha Ann Dallas Thornton and Charleen Hardy Thornton.
Survivors include daughters & son-in-law, Laura Ann Thornton and Dorothy Thornton & Paul E. Partin; son & daughter-in-law, Douglas Dixon & Carolyn Thornton; grandchildren & their spouses, Tom & Brittany Partin, Suzanne Partin, Taylor Partin, Greg Thornton and Cara Thornton; step-children, Jane & Richard Segall and Alan & Bonnie Hardy; special nieces, Mary Louise O’Rear and Virginia Adams. Nieces, nephews and other family also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Jesse Hurst Thornton will be held Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Griffin First United Methodist Church. Rev. Kevin Lobello and Rev. Hubert Flanagan will officiate. Interment will follow in the Midway United Methodist Church Cemetery. Friends may visit the family on Tuesday, August 2, 2011 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
