Mr. Garrison was born in Toccoa, GA on September 18, 1928 and later moved to Hartwell, GA. He attended North Georgia College and State University and graduated from the University of Georgia. After serving in the United States Army, Mr. Garrison made his home in Griffin, GA where he retired from Dundee Mills after 40 years of service. He was of the Christian faith and attended First Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Garrison is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.F. Garrison of Hartwell, GA and his sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Garrison Lee of Toccoa, GA. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Alice M. Garrison; daughter, Alicia G. Rieger of Columbus, GA; son, John M. Garrison, Jr. of Suwanee, GA; son & daughter-in-law, Mark A. and Amy B. Garrison of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Jenna M. Carrick (Ryan) of Columbus, GA, John M. “Trey” Garrison, III of Charleston, SC, Ryan H. Garrison of Clemson, SC, Avery T. Garrison of Clemson, SC and Ali R. Rieger of Columbus, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Avery F. and Caroline H. Garrison of Gastonia, NC and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. John Malcolm Garrison will be held Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Griffin. Rev. Chris Perkins and Rev. Courtney Wall will officiate. Interment will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in memory of Mr. Garrison to the Cancer Warriors, P.O. Box 509, Orchard Hill, GA 30266 or First Presbyterian Church, 1349 Macon Rd., Griffin, GA 30224.
The family expresses deep appreciation for the prayers and concern of friends and for the loving care provided by Dr. Robert Hall and Brightmoor Hospice.
