Ms. Joyce Elaine Spurgeon

Ms. Spurgeon was born January 10, 1949 in Atlanta, daughter of the late Paul Raymond Spurgeon and the late Katie Elizabeth Lance Spurgeon. She retired from the State of Georgia after 39 years of service as an educator. She held a doctorate degree in education. Ms. Spurgeon’s passion was special education and working with the handicapped. She was a wonderful teacher and loved by her students. She was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include brothers, David Spurgeon and his wife Carolyn of Glencoe, AL and Charles E. Spurgeon of Zebulon, GA; sister, Vickie S. Cash and her husband Charles of Zebulon, GA; aunts, Mrs. Bertha Payne of Atlanta, GA and Mrs. Faith Spurgeon of Freetown, IN; 8 nieces and nephews as well as other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Ms. Joyce Elaine Spurgeon will be held Saturday, January 8, 2011 at 12:00 noon in the chapel of Haisten McCullough Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Berea Cemetery in Hampton. Friends may visit the family on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
