

She was born on November 7, 1925 in Milledgeville, GA. She was preceded in death by her parents Onnie Butts and Mary Rebecca Brookins Butts and was the last surviving child of the 11 born to her parents. She was also preceded in death by her husband Herman Bowden Morris, her oldest grandchild, Charles Cleveland Tarleton, Jr. and his wife, Cynthia Landrum Tarleton and her son-in-law, Terry Odom Couch.
Miss Mary was a member of the Salvation Army Church where she was the oldest member having joined in 1954. At her church she served as a youth leader, Sunday school teacher, treasurer of the Home League (women’s group) and the Bible Sunday School Class. She was also a “Charter Member” of the Lunch Bunch and worked in the office for many years. She worked in various jobs in her life time, including “The Fuse Plant” in Warner Robins where she made fuses for bombs during WWII, at Griffin Garment Industry, The Atlanta Journal, The Griffin Daily News and at the time of her retirement at age 75, she was receptionist at the Salvation Army. She graduated with the Midway High School Class of 1942 in Milledgeville, GA
Survivors include her daughter, Peggy Diane Morris Couch of Decatur, GA; daughter, Mary Jane Morris Tarleton and her husband, Charles C. Tarleton of Griffin, their children and grandchildren, Thomas Wade Tarleton of Griffin, his children, Thomas Wade Tarleton, Jr. of Carrollton, Kimberly Jessica Tarleton of Savannah and Ansley Love Tarleton of Griffin, Dr. Gregory Paul Tarleton and his wife, Ruth of Winston-Salem, NC, his children, Susan Reid Tarleton, Samuel Bowden Tarleton, Margaret Anne Tarleton and Jane Morris Tarleton all of Winston-Salem, NC, Mary Elizabeth Tarleton Allen of Forsyth, GA and her children, Cody Michael Allen and Mary Brooke Allen of Barnesville, GA, Jennifer Christine Tarleton Evans and her husband, Britt of Hampton, GA and their children, Benjamin Clay Evans and Spencer Charles Evans; son, Kenneth Herman Morris and his wife, Cathy Jo O’Neal Morris of Milton, FL and their children and grandchildren, Kenneth Neal Morris and his wife Nicki of Griffin and their daughter Emma Elizabeth Morris, Timothy Chad Morris and his children, Madelyn Amelia Morris and Connor Riley Morris of Milton, FL; step-grandson, Kristopher Michael Long of Hampton, GA; many nieces, nephews and cousins; special friends, Shirley Sams Coleman and Catherine King who added much love to the life of Momma.

Funeral services for Mary Florence Butts Morris will be held Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel of Haisten McCullough Funeral Home. Major Jack Butler will officiate. Burial will follow in Westwood Gardens. Friends may visit the family on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the service hour.
