

Miss Howard was born in 1917 in Zebulon, Georgia, the daughter of the late Casey Bowen Howard and Plumie Williams Howard.
After having graduated with 1st honor from Zebulon High School in 1934, she entered Bessie Tift College and graduated with honors in 1938.
After teaching in the Pike County Schools for 22 years, she entered Emory University and earned a master’s degree in librarianship. She then joined the staff at Flint River Regional Library in Griffin, Georgia, and served there for 18 years as Reference Librarian and later as Assistant Director. She retired in 1979.
Miss Howard was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Griffin, the Arthur Maddox Sunday School Class, Young at Heart, and the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Pike County Retired Teachers Association.
She is survived by long time friend, Edith M. LeRoy of Griffin, cousins, and a step-niece.
Funeral services for Miss Sara Margaret Howard will be held on Sunday, August 25, 2013 at 2:00PM in the chapel of Haisten McCullough Funeral Home, Rev. Denel James will officiate. Interment will follow in the Zebulon Methodist Cemetery. Friends may visit from 1:00 PM until the service hour.
