Vera Jeannette Dukes Hutcherson

Mrs. Vera Jeannette Dukes Hutcherson was born in Griffin, Georgia on June 24, 1939. She was born to the late Jimmy and Stella Dukes. She departed this earthly world on Thursday, December 1, 2016. She is predeceased by her parents, four brothers (Tyrone, Greer, Richard and John), one sister (Betty), and two sons (Harrison and Dexter).

Jeannette was a member of the Mighty Fairmont Class of 1960. Mrs. Hutcherson was a long term member of the Griffin business community as the owner and proprietor of the Château Lounge for over 30 years. She was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church for over 60 years where she served on the Mt. Zion Usher Board, the United Sisterhood and the Hospitality Committee.

Jeannette loved her family and friends. After retiring, she was able to spend more time with her children, grandchildren (12), and great-grandchildren (7). Her lineage will continue with the birth of an additional great-grandchild at the end of December. She had a love for fashion and sweets. She could often be seen around town shopping for the latest styles. She exemplified style from head-to-toe. Jeannette was also known around Griffin for her skills in the kitchen. The Chateau Lounge included a cafe that served lunch and dinner, feeding many throughout the Griffin area. She was a well-rounded, family-oriented person. She gave hugs, a smile and a joke to make you feel loved.

She leaves to cherish her memory, three sons and one daughter: Arnold (Mechell) Price; Michael (Ja’cquline) Price; Latagar (Cardale) Bennett; Marco Hutcherson; her loving companion of over 30 years, Dennis Freeman; brothers: Jimmy Dukes; William (Leanna) Dukes; Ronald (Zena) McCord; sisters: Betty Washington; Ann Lucier; Janie (Louis) Douglas; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Vera Jeannette Dukes Hutcherson will be held Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Dr. Cleopatrick Lacy will officiate. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit the family Tuesday, December 6, 2016 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
