

Albert Thomas Paglia, Sr., age 88, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit. Mr. Paglia was born on June 17, 1925 in Detroit, one of four children of Michael and Mary Paglia. He graduated from East Detroit High School in 1943, and married Anna Eileen Edgeworth in 1954. Mr. Paglia was a decorated veteran of World War II where he flew 30 missions to help the Allied cause in Europe. After the war Mr. Paglia started his business, Township Oil Company. More recently, he was the principal in Castle Real Estate. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, lifelong businessman and resident of Grosse Pointe Shores. Friends and relatives will remember Mr. Paglia for his hard work, wisdom and generosity. He was the patriarch of a loving family and enjoyed family card games, traveling, golfing with his grandchildren and his time spent with the family at the cottage in Lake Orion and winter home in Lauderdale by the Sea, Florida. Mr. Paglia is survived by his loving family, Kathleen (Stephen) Pawlowski, Albert T. "Tom" (Attarah), Anthony (Carol Ann), Francine (Bob) Maxey, Roseanne (Brian Kruger), and Connie (Shawn) Duffy; 23 grandchildren, Stephen, Tim, Joe, Patrick, and Rose Pawlowski, Tommy, Andy and Lisa Paglia, Anthony Jr., Christina, Jeffrey, Matthew and Elizabeth Paglia, Robby, John, Scott, Tommy and Sydney Maxey, Danny Paglia, and Josh, Ryan, Colin and Jake Duffy, his cherished friend Virginia Kastner. He is also survived by his sister Erma Reindel. He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Anna; his parents; and brothers, Erman and Michael Paglia. Visitation will be on from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. Sunday at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road in Grosse Pointe Woods. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 7:00 o'clock Sunday evening. His body will lie instate at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 467 Fairford at Morningside in Grosse Pointe Woods from 9:30 a.m Monday until mass begins at 10:00 a.m. Monsignor Gary Smentanka will officiate. At the conclusion of the funeral mass, US Army Military Honors will be rendered. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township.
