
Andrea Venettis, age 102 died peacefully on June 11, 2009 at her home. Andrea was born in Greece on April 13, 1907, the daughter of George and Aristia Sarras. She married Harry Venettis and in 1930 they immigrated to the United States of America. They settled in Detroit to begin their lives and raise their family. Harry owned the Biff's Restaurant on Jefferson at Fisher in Detroit, adjacent to the Whittier. Andrea was a loving mother and devoted homemaker known for her cooking. She was a member of the Apirotic Society. She vacationed in the summer months at their cottage in Lexington, MI with her grandchildren close to her side. Mrs. Venettis was the loving mother of Alice Kalyvas (Leo), William (Sylvia) and the late Peter (Angeline). Mother-in-law of the late Alexandra Venettis. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; a sister, Elpiniki Kalegias and brother, Bill Sarras (in Greece). Visitation will be from 2-9 pm Sunday at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave. at Vernier Rd, Grosse Pointe Woods with a 7 pm Trisagion service. Her body will lie instate at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 21800 Marter Rd, St. Clair Shores (48080) from 10:30 am Monday until the time of funeral service at 11 am. Interment will be at Cadillac Memorial Gardens East in Clinton Township. Memorials to the Church Building Fund or Heritage Hospice would be appreciated.
