Anthony "Tony" Guastella, beloved husband, son, brother, and friend, passed away on April 1, 2026, at the age of 41. Born on February 6, 1985, to S. Mark and Tammy Guastella in Lansing, Michigan, Tony grew up as the oldest of four brothers, a bond that shaped who he was, and one that can never be broken.
Tony was, by nature, the quiet one in any room, but never in the way that goes unnoticed. He was the observer, the thinker, the one who had already solved the problem before anyone else realized there was one. Those who knew him well knew that when Tony spoke, it was worth listening to.
From an early age, Tony had a love of reading, and Harry Potter held a special place in his heart. His youth was often filled with his brothers and their friends gathering for movie marathons and tie-dye parties, memories his parents hold close and remember fondly.
Tony’s love of Detroit extended beyond just the city, he was an avid fan of the Tigers, Lions, Pistons and Red Wings and while he followed them with an unwavering dedication they were nothing to his love of Michigan State.
Tony bled green and white, and he wore it proudly. A devoted Michigan State Spartan fan, his love for MSU sports was as much a part of him as anything else, whether it was Spartan football Saturdays or turning March Madness into a sacred event with his brothers. Sports, for Tony, were never just games; they were community, conversation, and one more reason to gather with the people he loved.
It was in the early 2000s that Tony crossed paths with the woman who would become his greatest adventure. He and Rachel first met while working together at Cold Stone Creamery, where Rachel had initially befriended his brother Mike. What began as a friendly conspiracy, Rachel and Mike scheming to find Tony a girlfriend, quietly became something Rachel had already decided for herself. It didn’t take long for Tony to come to the same conclusion, the first and best decision they both made. By 2007, the two were dating, and on a day that had been a long time coming, they married in 2018.
Tony's passion for digital media guided every chapter of his professional life. As early as 2002, he was interning, booking guests and supporting production for local Sports Radio. By 2005, he had joined Spartan Sports Network as a radio board operator while simultaneously beginning an internship at the ABC Television affiliate in Lansing. His dedication to the craft never wavered. In 2010, he enrolled at Specs Howard School of Media Arts, where he not only earned his degree but graduated as valedictorian, receiving awards for exceptional technical performance, a distinction that surprised no one who had watched him work. In 2011, he joined Doner Advertising, where he grew from Assistant to Senior Video Editor, building a body of work that reflected both his skill and his quiet, steady excellence.
Beyond his career, Tony was deeply woven into the fabric of his family. He was close not only with his three brothers, but with their wives and children as well; a circle of people who shared laughs, inside jokes, and the kind of shorthand that only comes from years of truly knowing one another.
Tony is survived by his cherished wife, Rachel Sherman-Guastella; dear parents, Tammy & S. Mark Guastella; adored brothers, Mike (Melana Kasper) Guastella, Nick (Lydia Hayes-Guastella), and Matt (Erica) Guastella; and treasured niece, Lily Guastella; as well as many friends and colleagues whose lives were made better and brighter by knowing him.
He will be deeply missed, though if you listen carefully in a quiet room, you might just sense him still observing, still thinking, already three steps ahead.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave, Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan 48236.
