

Aspasia “Bess" Garkinos, 81, of Grosse Pointe Woods, passed away peacefully June 26, 2016, surrounded by her family. Aspasia emigrated from Greece to Detroit in 1947 and met her late husband Nicholas at the Assumption Church and in 1973 moved with her family to Grosse Pointe Woods. She was a devoted wife and dance partner with the late Nicholas Garkinos who passed away in 1992. Nick the Greek and Aspasia (aka Bess) were married for 33 years before his untimely death. They owned the Meat Town Inn restaurant in the Eastern Market for nearly 30 years. Beloved daughter of the late Steve and Irene Zervas. Deeply loved by her two children Rene of St. Clair Shores and Christos Garkinos of Los Angeles. She was survived by her sister Thareni Kiriazis (wife of George Kiriazis). Her sister-in-law Stella Ferris (wife of the late Tom Ferris), son-in-law Omar Reader. Loving Aunt to Steve Kiriazis (Adrianna) and Francene Sciortino. Great aunt to Tommy, Patrick, Nicholas, Claudia, Yianni and Maria. She had many, many friends and especially loved Stephanie and Johnny. Rene and Christos fondly remember her contagious laugh, and her love of bowling, travel, dancing, crossword puzzles, Matlock, Murder She Wrote and the Detroit Tigers. Visitation Wednesday 3-8 pm with Trisagion at 6:30 pm at the A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road, Grosse Pointe Woods. Instate Thursday 9:30 am until time of Funeral 10:00 am at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 21800 Marter Road, St. Clair Shores. Aspasia was devoted in her faith in God and requests donations to be made to the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church.
