

Austin E. Ball, age 96, died peacefully on March 13, 2015 at Shorepointe Assisted Living in St. Clair Shores. Austin was born in Akron, Ohio on Mother's Day, May 12, 1918. He was the second oldest of Charles and Hedwig Ball's six children. Mr. Ball was retired from General Motors after 27 years of service working with the Argonaut Realty Division, as a supervisor in the Specifications Department. Austin was married to Marion (nee Callender) for 52 years before her death in 1993. He claimed he was married to the "farmer's daughter." Together they enjoyed traveling, bowling and visiting familyand friends. His hobbies included bow and arrow hunting and fishing. Austin was active in the Boy Scouts of America for over 79 years, starting as a teenager in the Sea Scouts and later as Cub Master of Troop 244, council member and sponsor for Troop 1984. He will be fondly remembered for his kindness and for lending a helping hand to family and neighbors throughout his life. Austin is survived by his two children, Irven Ball (Irene) and Kathleen Bidigare (Thomas), four grandchildren, Andrea Sok (Chansa), Jonathan Ball (Meghan), Carrie Heisele (Kenneth) and Peter Bidigare; and three great-grandchildren, Madeline Sok, Owen Austin Ball and Emelia Heisele. He was predeceased by his wife Marion. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road in Grosse Pointe Woods. A scripture service will begin at 7:00 o'clock Monday evening. His body will lie instate at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 21620 Greater Mack, St. Clair Shores from 9:30 a.m. Tuesday until mass begins at 10:00 a.m. Monsignor G. Michael Burgarin will officiate. Interment at White Chapel Memorial Cemetery in Troy. Memorial contributions to a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated.
