

Barb is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Dayle O’Brien. She is also preceded by her loving sister, Betty Dranberg (the late Art).
Barb is survived by her loving children, Kelly Karlewski (Bill), Tracy Long (the late Chris), Colleen O’Brien-Combs (Steve), and Heather O’Brien; her loving sister, Peggy Wichmann (William); and her grandkitties, Lucky and Tuxy. She will also be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and grandchildren and great-grandchildren from extended family.
Barb was a devout member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Detroit for almost 60 years. She was involved in Mother’s club, Chairman of Parent Teacher Organization, and volunteer for Gifts for All God’s Children. She was also a dedicated volunteer at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church’s Free Thrift Clothing Closet. She loved shopping at flea markets for collectible furniture pieces, bowling, golfing, scrap booking, card making, ceramics, and oil painting. She was especially fond of playing cards with her friends on Friday nights, traveling, and camping.
Barb had a strong faith and strong love of life. She fought a long, hard battle with Chronic Lymphoma Leukemia for 22 years. Even on her hardest days, she remained a resilient, brilliant, and loving wife, mother, sister and friend. She was truly a fighter until the end.
A memorial visitation for Barbara Ann O'Brien will be held at A. H. Peters Funeral Home, located at 20705 Mack Ave, Grosse Pointe Woods, MI, 48236, on February 14, 2026, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.
A memorial service will follow at the same venue on February 14, 2026, starting at 3:00 pm.
