Bernard Zimmerman passed away peacefully on March 9, 2012 at the age of 96. He was born on May 9, 1915 in Richmond, Michigan; son of Frank and Anna (nee Rubinknapp) Zimmerman. Bernard met his future wife Mildred in Bayport, Michigan. They were married in 1941 and enjoyed 65 loving years together until her death in 2008. Mr. Zimmerman worked as an engineer for Chrysler retiring in 1975. He was an intelligent man that would complete the daily crosswords and the daily Sudukos (even level 5). Despite being a "one key" typer, Bernard learned to use computers in his 80s. His only hang up with computers was wondering how they could operate without cords. Bernard loved golf and hockey. He was a devout Catholic attending Mass on a regular basis. He would always tell people "Don't take any wooden nickles", and "Don't let the bed bugs bite". Mr. Zimmerman is survived by his sons Fred (Joan) and Ken (Charlotte). He was proud of his grandchildren Eric, Todd, Scott, Mark, and Jill. He leaves behind his great-grandchildren Sydney, Connor, Liam, Kyla, Ashton, Parker, and Aidan. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in St. Clair Shores. Memorial contributions may be made to the Capuchins, 1820 Mt. Elliott, Detroit, MI 48207-3496 or St. John Hospice, C/O St. John Health Foundation, P.O. Box 673271, Detroit, MI 48267
