OBITUARY Born on October 7, 1960 in Detroit, MI to the late Curtis Neal Sr. and Marshea (Neal) Ellis, Calip was often referred to as Michael, Main or Neal by those who loved him. Growing up on the Eastside of Detroit, Michael as an adventurous child and well known throughout the neighborhood. He attended Finney High School prior to joining his Dad to train and work as an auto mechanic at their family owned gas station and car repair shop ("The Shop"). He continued working at The Shop over the many years. Michael also joined the City of Detroit and remained an employee until time of death. Michael was the embodiment of what it means to place family first. Named Calip after his paternal Grandfather, Michael often was the go to person to learn and connect the dots about the Neal Family history and to share great stories. He took pleasure in hitting the road with family to drive many hours to visit family and friends because he understood it was the journey we would treasure, and what great memories we have as a result. An outgoing person, he loved hosting and attending family activities and was often the life of the party. As the family grill master, he saw BBQing as just one more way to demonstrate his love by giving his time and feeding us with his love. And he could not turn down a good game like Poker, Bid Wiz, Quarter Tonk, Dominoes or a football game while enjoying a drink amongst the family and friends he loved. With a great sense of humor, empathy and a non-judgmental heart, he was a confidante and comforter to many as shown by his ability to listen with compassion while seeking to understand. Those who knew him for a very long time or a very brief time, immediately came to know the love he had for family and that he was very protective of them. Meeting him during his transition from earth are many loved ones including his father Curtis Sr, two brothers, Curtis Jr and John and many other relatives. Michael leaves to cherish his loving memories: his long term and beloved partner Patricia Watson; children Chantell and David Neal; step son Antonio; loving mother Marshea Ellis; siblings Freddie (Cathy) Neal, Ernest Neal Sr, Josephine Ellem, Renee Neal, and Domineca Neal; special family friends Gerald Bush, Kenya Nelson, Nikia Mapson and Latricia Nesbitt and a host of very special grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.
