Carl Morath

Carl Morath, age 87 died on August 27, 2008. He was born Febrary 28, 1921 in Feucht, Germany, the son of Conrad and Anna (nee Hoffman) Morath. In 1928 the Morath family immigrated to the United States. Carl was a graduate of Northwestern High School in Detroit and the former Detroit Institute of Technology, now Wayne State University. He became the treasurer of the Cold Heading Company of Detroit in 1951. The company later moved to Warren where Mr. Morath became the company's president. He retired in 1988. Mr. Morath was a trustee at Madonna University in Detroit. He was very active in educational and Catholic charaties. He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church since 1953 and the Detroit Golf Club. His daughter said he was a man of faith and family. Mr. Morath is survived by his wife of 63 years, Irene; children, Paul (Pamela), James (Betsy), Margaret, Donald (Sarah), Thomas (Terri), Frederick (Katherine), Lawrence (Patricia), Irene McGinn (David), Louise Gordon (Brian) and Carl C. (Kristin); 28 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a brother Paul Morath of Germany. Visitation will be from 2-8 pm Sunday and Monday at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave. at Vernier Rd, Grosse Pointe Woods with a rosary service at 7:00 pm Monday. His body will lie instate at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 21620 Greater Mack, St. Clair Shores (48080) from 9:30 am Tuesday until time of mass at 10:00 am. Cremation will follow and inurnment will be at St. Paul Columbarium in Grosse Pointe Farms. The family has requested donations be made to St. Joan of Arc Church or Madonna University, Advancement Office, 36600 Schoolcraft Road; Livonia, MI 48150-1176.
