Catherine M Waters

Catherine was born in Jackson, Georgia to Ernest and Nell Metzger. She died December 12, 2013 at Henry Ford Hospital after a brief illness. She is survived by her husband of seventy-one years, Robert Waters. She is survived by her children Eleanor (Elly) Garzel and Arthur Waters. Her grandchildren are Michael, Dr. Laura and Julie. Her brother Carl (Bobbie) Metzger of South Carolina also survives her. She achieved a B. S. degree from Winthrop College in South Carolina and an MBA at Northwestern University. She had a career in marketing then served in the Civil Service during WWII. She was a member of the Fox Creek Questers. She also worked in the office at St. Michael Episcopal Church, served as treasurer of their Little Thrift Shop and as president of the Episcopal Church Women. Catherine enjoyed travelling and did so extensively. She and her husband toured throughout Europe, visiting England, Switzerland, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Italy and Austria. Together they also visited Australia, Fiji, New Zeeland, Alaska and Hawaii. Robert described Catherine as an expert in making a pecan pie. She enjoyed sewing smock dresses for her granddaughters, knitting and bargello. A memorial service will take place at 1:00 pm on Saturday December 21 at St. Michael Episcopal Church, 20475 Sunningdale Park, Grosse Pointe Woods 48236 Memorial contributions appreciated to the church.
