

Charles E. Fisher, age 95, died peacefully on October 8, 2015 at his home in St. Clair Shores. Charles was born on June 19, 1920 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the son of Charles J. and Marie Fisher. The family moved to Michigan in 1927 and Charles graduated St. Clair High School in 1938, Port Huron Junior College in 1940 and received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Western Michigan University in 1942. On September 8, 1944, Charles married Helen R. Bluhm in Port Huron. Charles served his country during World War II in the US Navy. He attained the rank of Lieutenant and was honorably discharged in November of 1945 after three years of service. He continued his service in the US Naval Reserves until 1959. After his hitch in the Navy, he began working for IBM in 1945. His career as a sales executive spanned 41 years and he retired in 1986. Charles was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Detroit and served many terms as President and Chairman of the church's Voters' Assembly. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Lutheran Center of Detroit, a member of the Board of Directors of the Church Extension Fund, Michigan District of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod and a member of the Board of Directors of the Michigan District of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. Mr. Fisher was an avid golfer and was a member of the Gowanie Golf Club in Mount Clemens. Charles is survived by his daughters, Joanne Fisher and Deborah Fisher (Gary Culyer); his sister, Mary Ahles (the late Eldon P.); his brother, P. Nicholas Fisher (Lori) and four nieces and three nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Helen, his eldest brother, Harold A. Fisher and sister-in-law, Katherine A. Fisher. A memorial service for Charles E. Fisher will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 21, 2015 at Bethany Lutheran Church, 11475 E. Outer Drive, Detroit 48224. The family will receive friends after 10:00 a.m. Pastor Christopher Bodley and Pastor Peter Brueckner will officiate. Memorial contributions to Bethany Lutheran Church would be appreciated.
