Daniel Wyllie passed away on May 9, 2022 at the age of 78. He was born in Detroit on March 12, 1944; son of Charles and Genevieve (née Easton) Wyllie. Dan and Patricia Taggart met at their best friends’ wedding where they served as Best Man and Maid of Honor. The two lifelong Eastsiders married on August 1, 1969 at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Detroit. Dan received his Juris Doctorate from Wayne State University in that same year. Dan spent his entire career at Dykema Gossett Law Firm in Detroit, rising to Senior Partner in charge of the litigation practice group. He was also an instructor of legal reasoning at Wayne State’s Law School.
Dan’s many interests included building and collecting model trains; swimming in his backyard pool, the Detroit Athletic Club, or the Grosse Pointe Neighborhood Club; and reading. He was a voracious reader. We’re talking a book a day. Fiction, non-fiction, 5 and 6 at a time. Dan was a passionate Detroit sports fan, sharing season tickets for the Red Wings and remaining an eternally hopeful Lions fan (Dan would also want us to say “Go Blue”). He absolutely adored the many wonderful dogs that were part of the Wyllie family throughout the years and leaves behind their faithful dog Abby.
He will be remembered for his kind and charitable nature and his brilliant mind. Of all of his interests and hobbies, Dan’s biggest love in life was his family; he was fiercely proud of his girls: Pat, Kelli, and Kim. A group hug was one of his greatest joys.
Dan leaves behind and will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 53 years, Patricia, his daughters Kelli Wyllie and Kim Wyllie Calloway, and her husband Thomas. He is survived by his brothers Thomas, William, and Paul Wyllie and numerous loving nieces and nephews from many generations. He was predeceased by his parents, his sister Jeanne Meier, and his brother Charles Wyllie Jr.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 4–6 pm at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave, at Vernier Rd, Grosse Pointe Woods. His Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday at 12:30 pm at St Clare of Montefalco Catholic Church, 1401 Whittier Rd, Grosse Pointe Park.
