Deveran was born in Detroit’s West Side where he was the oldest of three. Dev, Ron and Sarah spent weekends on the family farm in Emmett where they had a beautiful garden full of vegetables, fruit and flowers. Dev met the love of his life, Vera (nee Reswow) when they were matched at the Cass Tech High school computer dance in 1967. On that night, he asked Vera to his senior prom and they dated long distance while he was stationed with the Army in Korea. They married on June 4, 1972 at All Saints Russian Orthodox Cathedral in Detroit.
Dev went on to get his engineering degree from Wayne State University and spent 30 years with the Budd Company in their Detroit Plant. When he retired at 55, he enjoyed planning his garden with his favorite crop being garlic. Holidays were always a special occasion that he spent weeks planning the meal with his excel spreadsheet in his special holiday binder. He loved planning and preparing the meal but most importantly loved having his family around the table together laughing and enjoying a good glass of wine while gathering notes for next year’s meal. His favorite vacations were at Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island where he and Vera loved the clang of the silverware in the dining room but loved it even more when the kids and grandkids could join in the fun.
Dev was an avid sports fan for the Detroit Tigers and Lions and loved talking sports. His passion for stamps that started as a young boy with his brother-in-law, John Reswow was renewed with his Parkinson’s diagnosis. The two of them enjoyed countless hours of discussing their extensive stamp collections.
Dev is survived by Vera who he affectionately called, Honey and their special sidekick dog, Rudy who brought so much love and life to them. In addition he leaves behind his four children who he loved dearly; Tanya (Mark) Dely, Andrew (Maria), Byron, Natalie (Andrew) Delmege. He cherished his time with his seven grandkids, Nicholas Dely, Mark Gregory Dely, Catherine Dely, John Dely, Abigail Delmege, Thomas Delmege and Eleanor Delmege in addition to Rudy’s best buddies, Bruno and George. He always loved when the grandkids came into town and spent evenings fishing, playing pool in the basement and watching Hallmark movies and Perry Mason.
Dev is predeceased by his son, Deveran Jett Brewer, Jr, his parents, Estil and Velma Brewer, in-laws, Nicholas and Nadejda Reswow and Nicholas Glush.
