Donald Earle Thornton

Donald Earle Thornton age 87 . It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of our beloved father, Don who passed away surrounded by loved ones on August 19, 2015. Donald was predeceased by his beloved wife, Yolanda (nee Ponzio) of nearly 60 years. He was the loving father of Jim (Terry) Thornton, and Linda Knoll. Proud" Papa"of Eric and Christopher Knoll and dear brother of Deannie Reilly. Cherished son of the late Harold and Edna Thornton and son-in-law of the late Giovanni and Isabella (Pugliese) Ponzio.He was predeceased by brothers and sisters-in-law Mary (Andy) Sirois, Ida (Toby) Lantto, Sam Ponzio, Joe Ponzio, Gene (Norma) Ponzio and Bob Reilly. Donald was also survived by Sisters-in-law Virginia Ponzio, Jennie Berkau and many nieces, nephews and friends. Don was known to many as the nicest guy around; family and friends were his life. From 1954-1956 he served his country honorably as a corporal in the United States Army. Hardworking and loyal, Don dedicated 35 years to the Budd Company in tool and die and production engineering. His kind heart and gentle manner will be sadly missed by all. Visitation Sunday 2:00 pm-9:00 pm. Funeral Monday 10:00 am at the A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack at Vernier road, Grosse Pointe Woods 48236. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Don's honor would be appreciated to the American Heart Association.
