Dorothy M. Johanson (Kosanke)

Dorothy M. Johanson (Kosanke), age 96, died on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at Autumn Woods Nursing Home in Warren after a long illness. She was born on January 9, 1914 in Johnstown, PA the daughter of Sherman and Elsie Bumford. She moved to Detroit with her family when she was 16 and graduated from Pershing High School. She married Charles Kosanke, Sr. and started her family of three children. After Charles died, she married the late Ralph Johanson. Dorothy was a 60 year resident of St. Clair Shores. She was a member of the St. Clair Shores Seniors and TOPS. Dorothy enjoyed gardening and was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by her son Charles Kosanke, Jr. and his wife Catherine. She was predeceased by two husbands and two children; Lois Pollock and Robert Kosanke, and one late grandson. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, a brother Bill Bumford and a sister Jean Stanton. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 am Monday, March 8, 2010 at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave at Vernier Road, Grosse Pointe Woods. The Very Reverend Monsignor Charles G. Kosanke, Dorothy's grandson and Rector of SS. Cyril and Methodius Seminary in Orchard Lake, MI will officiate. A private family interment will be at Acacia Park Cemetery in Beverly Hills. Visitation at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 to 9:00 pm.
