Dorothy Sicklesteel

Dorothy Sicklesteel passed away peacefully in her home January 13, 2014 surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Skandia, MI on August 7, 1921 to John and Augusta Anderson. Dorothy married Robert Sicklesteel in February 1954. She is a graduate of Northern University. She taught home economics at South Lake High School from 1948 - 1955. She took time off to raise her family and resumed teaching from 1967 - 1986. Dorothy received a master's degree in textiles at Wayne State University. After retiring she spent more than 10 years as a docent at the Detroit Institute of Arts. She was a 50 years plus member of Grosse Pointe Memorial Church where she was in the sewing group and also a deacon. Dorothy is survived by her children David (Julie) and Steven (Lisa). She was the grandmother of Julianne, Christina, Kathryn, and Lauren Sicklesteel. She is also survived by her loving sister Ruth Sharef. There will be a funeral service Friday January 17th at Grosse Pointe Memorial Church at 1:00 pm, 16 Lakeshore Dr., Grosse Pointe Farms. Family will receive friends and visitors Thursday 3-9 pm at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave. at Vernier Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods.
