

Edna was born on September 23, 1923 in Detroit, MI to Martha and David Duncan. She graduated Cass Tech High School in 1941, and was united in holy wedlock to Frank J. Bakewicz on December 11, 1943. In 1982, while fighting to be a breast cancer survivor, Edna began attending Wayne State University on a four year Merit Scholarship Award receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1985 and a Master of Arts degree in 1987. Edna was a past President and member of the Grosse Pointe Artists Association, a member of the Detroit Society of Women Painters and Sculptors, a charter member of the International Society of Artists and a member of the Detroit Institute of Arts Founders Society. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters Mary Dennis and Dorothy Thomas, a brother David Duncan, and a daughter Christine Emily Bakewicz. She was the proud mother of one son Reverend William F. Bakewicz of Long Prairie, MN, and two daughters Mrs. Susan Lemmons of Ramer, TN and Mrs. Rhonda Lindell of Troy, MI., the proud grandmother of five grandchildren Joseph Hodge, Jonathan Bakewicz, Rebekah Bakewicz, Martin Lindell, III and Eric Lindell, and one great-granddaughter Lucia Bakewicz. She was also blessed by God to be a two time breast cancer survivor. Edna passed from this life on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at the age of 88. She loved to share her faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and will be missed by all who loved and knew her, especially her devoted husband of 68 years, Frank. Mrs. Bakewicz will lie instate on Saturday, May 19th from 10:30 am until the time of the Funeral Service at 11:30 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 375 Lothrop, Grosse Pointe Farms. Reverend Morsal Collier will officiate. Interment at Gethsemane Cemetery in Detroit.
