

Hartmann, Elaine died on April 30, 2008. She was 78 years old. She was born in Detroit and lived in Grosse Pointe Farms for the last 48 years. She was a Detroit school teacher for 34 years and active in state and local politics. She made a nearly successful bid for state representative in 1996. She championed many causes for the benefit of her community. She was a tireless advocate of historical preservation and an active member of Grosse Pointe Historical Society. She also served on he Grosse Pointe Farms Planning Commission. Securing several investors, she rescured and beautifully restored one of the oldest homes in Grosse Pointe, the Cadieux Farmhouse. As a labor of love, she dedicated her talents to renovating and decorating the rectory at Most Holy Trinity Church in Detroit. In recognition of her contributions, she received the Holy Trinity Good Samaritan Award. She was an avid collector of art and antiques and owned and operated a local shop, Birds of a Feather Antiques. She will be missed by her loving family, including her brothers and sister, her daughter Amy, son-in-law Chick Taylor, grandson Charlie, her failthful dog Hershey, and her beloved garden. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph N. Hartmann. A private memorial service will be held on May 17, 2008 at 10AM.
