Elizabeth M. Bender passed away on August 13, 2013 at St. John Hospital in Detroit at the age of 97. She was born on September 9th, 1915 in Newcastle, Pennsylvania; daughter of Mike and Matilda (nee Filp) Gierling. Mrs. Bender was predeceased by her husband John in 1999. She leaves behind many loving extended family members. Visitation for Aunt Elizabeth will begin on Thursday from 9:00 am until the time of her funeral service at 10:00 am at the A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave., at Vernier Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods. Reverend David Rutter will officiate. Elizabeth will be buried by her beloved John at Gethsemane Cemetery in Detroit.
