Betty graduated from Detroit Bible College in 1954. Years later she earned her Masters Degree at Wayne University. Her working career began at age sixteen as a file clerk for the Detroit Edison Company, eventually becoming the private secretary for the president of the company. In the late 1960’s she worked for President Nixon in Vietnam in the nuclear power sector. For five years she also worked for the World Energy Conference around the world meeting over 80 heads of state. Betty also financially supported missionaries helping them to spread the Gospel in Haitian Orphanages, in Brazil and in the Congo.
Betty was a dedicated daughter and sister. As the eldest she helped raise her brothers and sisters and continued throughout her whole life supporting the entire family. After Betty retired she developed a passion for gardening which led her to take courses as a 'master gardener’.
Betty is survived by her siblings Wini and Tom, her nieces and nephews and their children. She met her future husband Dick Grady at the Edison Company and always called Dick’s children her children too, Kathleen, Gregory and Steve. Over 30 years Betty developed a close relationship with her housekeeper Maryellen and considered her part of the family. From the time Betty took ill, Maryellen devoted herself to taking care of Betty in her home and later at the nursing home. Whenever Maryellen visited Betty at Shore Point Health she did everything she could to make sure Betty was comfortable and before she would leave the two of they would pray together.
Tom wants to share a few thoughts with you. Wini and I treasure all the memories of growing up with you, our BIG SISTER. We won’t have more tomorrows that we can share but yesterdays with you will always be in our heart. And now God has you in his keeping.
