Elizabeth Leonard North

Elizabeth L. North, age 80, died peacefully at home on February 25, 2015. Elizabeth was born in Detroit on February 8, 1935, the daughter of Lawrence and Eileen Leonard. She grew up in Cleveland and graduated from Hathaway Brown Cleveland High School. She continued her education at Simmons Boston College where she earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree. During the 1960's Liz was a member and president of the Junior League of Detroit. Later she was a member of the Colonial Dames, a group of former Junior League members. She was a half owner of the former Walton-Pierce Company, a ladies wear store on Kercheval in the City of Grosse Pointe. She also worked as a receptionist at St. John Hospital in the Intensive Care Unit Lounge and Surgical Lounge. For the last fifteen years, she was the office manager for the Woodbridge Condominium Association in St. Clair Shores. Liz enjoyed doing needlepoint and reading. Her vocations and family were two things that she enjoyed immensely. She was the host of her family's Sunday evening dinners. Liz is survived by four children; Leo J. Fitzpatrick, Patricia F. D'Herde (Edward), Kevin P. Fitzpatrick, Sean K. Fitzpatrick (Julie); three stepchildren, Eric North, Wendy North and the late Amy North; grandchildren, Stephanie, Kristin, Andrew, Alyssa, Shaye and Kyra; her two sisters, Eileen Koehler (Donald) and Natalie Leonard and her brother, Lawrence Leonard (Peggy). Long time close friend of Virginia Chrispin. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul D. North and an infant son, Michael. Memorial gathering 2-7 pm Saturday at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Rd, Grosse Pointe Woods with a memorial service following at 7 pm. Inurnment at Mt. Elliott Cemetery in Detroit. Liz had a love for animals, particularly her beloved Bailey. At Liz's suggestion, and in lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials be made to the Michigan Humane Society, c/o Development Department, 30300 Telegraph Road, Suite 220, Bingham Farms, MI 48025 or Reverence Hospice, 22101 Moross Road; Mack Office Building, Suite 102; Detroit, MI 48236
