

Born on November 28, 1925, Ross proudly served his nation in the United States Army Air Forces (formerly known as Air Corps) from 1943 to 1945 during World War II. After his military service, he built a successful career, owning and operating his own construction business for over 40 years while also dedicating himself to education in the Detroit Public Schools. As a math and architecture teacher at Cass Technical High School and Wayne State University, he later became Principal for Adult Education in 1988, where he pioneered a school program to educate adults in the building trades. Additionally, Ross served with the Detroit Police Department, training security personnel to ensure student safety in the surrounding areas of Cass Tech.
A devoted family man, Ross was married to his beloved wife, Barbara, for 53 years until her passing in 2002. Together, they raised two beautiful daughters, Sharon and Bonnie.
Ross lived in several Michigan communities, including Detroit, Grosse Pointe, and Harrison Township, before settling in Clinton Township, where he resided for 22 years. A faithful 40-year member of Bethel Baptist Church in St. Clair Shores, Michigan, he enjoyed teaching Sunday School and serving on various church committees, embodying his deep commitment to faith and service.
Ross is survived by his loving children, Sharon Davisson (Jerry), and Bonnie Awrey-Kaulfuss (Martin); his loving grandchildren, Derek Kaulfuss (Allison), Dane Kaulfuss (Lauren), Dylan Kaulfuss, Shane Davisson (Emily), and Shauna Garneau (Dave). He also is survived by 12 cherished great-grandchildren, Logan, Blair, Lucas, Blake, Brynlee, Lathan, Bennett, Cameron, Dalton, Hayes, Emery, and Everleigh.
Elvin Ross Awrey leaves behind a legacy of service, hard work, devoted faith, and love that will be cherished by his family, friends, students, and all who knew him.
Visitation will be held at Bethel Baptist Church, located at 24600 Little Mack Ave., St. Clair Shores, MI, 48080, on January 7, 2026, from 10:30 am to 11:30 am. The funeral service will follow at the same location, starting at 11:30 am.
