Eugene A. Shelley

Eugene Shelley passed away on February 14, 2013 at St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit at the age of 82. He was born on January 1st, 1931 in Kalamazoo, Michigan; son of Perry and Eyrcel (nee Wilkinson) Shelley. Eugene married his beloved Jean Bartlett on June 21, 1952 at North Detroit Baptist Church. They lived in Detroit until moving to Roseville in 1954. Mr. Shelley was an avid gardener. Despite Jean being a "city girl" they moved to Armada on a farm where Eugene grew various vegetables and tended livestock. They eventually moved to St. Clair Shores where Eugene continued to maintain a garden. Mr. Shelley retired from Ford Motors in 1986 after over twenty years of employment. He is survived by his wife Jean and daughters Donna Shelley and Linda Schmutzler. He was proud of his grandson Paul (Heidi) Schmutzler and adored his great-grandchildren Vincent and Eva. He will be missed by his niece Donna (Dennis) Root and great-nephew Bobby Root. A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 18th at 10:00 am at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave., at Vernier Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods. Pastor Terrence O'Brien from Cornerstone Baptist Church will officiate. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2:00 until 7:00 pm. He will be interred at White Chapel Cemetery in Troy.
