Florence Gorrie

Florence Gorrie 89, passed away August 18, 2010 at her home of 70 years in St. Clair Shores Michigan. Florence was born June 26, 1921 in Detroit Michigan to the late Peter and Rose Helfenstein. In 1940 she married John (Jack) Gorrie who preceded her in death in November 1998. Florence graduated from Grosse Pointe High School in 1939. Following graduation , marriage and parenting her 3 children( Pamela, Bruce and Mike ), Florence worked for over 20 years as a secretary in the South Lake School System. Upon her retirement, her secretarial skills were utilized in letter writing for St. Paul's Lutheran Church in St. Clair Shores: she futhermore served as the family secretary as she regularly corresponded with family members sending out warm thank you notes, reminders(birthdays, significant family activities) and noteworthy news articles. Florence took pride in her home and her family, she was also fiercely loyal to family, friends and the Detroit Tigers( She cherished her certificate of appreciation from the Tiger Organizaton on her recent eighty ninth birthday ). Florence's buldog determination, attention to detail and organizational skills served as a model for family and friends alike; she lived by the axiom"a place for everthing and everthing in it's place.Florence is survived by daughter Pamela( Roger ) Prisbe, of Grosse Pointe Woods, MI sons Bruce( Cathy ) Gorrie of Northborough, MA ; Mike Gorrie of Gulliver, MI brother Ted Helfenstein of Warren, MI, seven grandchildren, Patrick(Shiela), Collen (Joel) Laura, Kurt, Scott (Christine), Brad (Marion) and Jonathon, nine great grandchildren, James, Sarah, Katelyn, Julia, Brooke, Taylor, Shane, Jake and Jamison. In addition to her parents Peter and Rose and husband Jack, Florence was pre-deceased by a sister Margaret Hall and brother Robert Helfenstein. Funeral 12 noon Saturday A.H.
