
Frances Georgeson, a 55 years resident of Grosse Pointe, passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2020, at the Rivers Assisted Living in Grosse Pointe Woods, at the age of 98. Frances was born of Greek parents. Olga and Nicholas Andoniades, in Constantinople, Turkey. When Frances was nine months old, she and her parents had to flee the Turkish genocide at midnight in a small boat that took them to Thessaloniki, Greece. Her father died when she was three years old, shortly after the birth of her brother Anthony. When her mother remarried, they moved to Detroit. Frances was 12 years old and loved being an American, learning the language quickly and doing well in school. She met her future husband Agamemnon, “Aggie,†when she was 12, being family friends. They were engaged when she was 18. Aggie left for the war, stationed in the United States. They married in June 1944 and were stationed in Bryan, Texas. After the war they moved to Detroit and began their family: Alexandra, “Sandy†and Adamont, “Monty.â€
Frances started college at Wayne State University after graduating from Southeastern High School, but postponed it because of the war and starting her family. When her daughter Sandy was married in 1969, Frances returned to Wayne State getting her B.A. and later a Master’s degree in Library Science. She was the librarian at Warren Woods High School for 10 years and substitute taught for another 10 years, well into her seventies.
Frances was active in the community with the Women’s Club of Grosse Pointe and the Daughters of Penelope. When her children were young, she taught Sunday school at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church. She loved to read, play bridge and golf, all of which she continued to do into her 90s.
She is survived by her daughter Alexandra (Nicholas) Moisides, her son Adamont (Tracy) Georgeson, grandchildren Thomas Moisides, Christos (Ellena)Moisides, and Alexis Georgeson; great grandchildren Isabella, Nicholas, Theo, and Malena Moisides; cousins Kriton Tsiminakis, and George (Ann) Tsiminakis, and nephew Michael (Janice) Andoniades. She was predeceased by her husband Agamemnon, her brother Anthony Andoniades, and godson Anthony Andoniades, Jr.
Family will celebrate her life privately at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack at Vernier Road, Grosse Pointe Woods. Father Michael Varlamos of Assumption Greek Orthodox Church will officiate. Private interment will take place at Clinton Grove Cemetery, Clinton Township. A celebration of her life will be held later in the summer.
