

Francisco Cordova, known to his friends as Pancho, passed away on Tuesday morning at St. John Hospital in Detroit with his sons at his side. He was born on January 2, 1931 in Camaguey, Cuba the son of Francisco and Mercedes Cordova. Mr.Cordova and his family came to the United States from Cuba in 1966. Pancho was married to Nereida, the love of his life, for over fifty years until her death if 2010. He worked at the MTS Steel company as a machine operator for over 36 years until his retirement in 1997. He attended the university of Havana for two years. Pancho enjoyed sports, especially baseball. He liked to dance and play dominos. He looked forward to visit southern Florida where the weather was the same as his native Cuba. He was proud of his grandchildren and loved to dote on them. Pancho is survived by his sons Frank (Terry) and Richard (Rosalind); his grandchildren Kelly, Kyle, Rico and Lanza as well as his sister Quina Cordova. Visitation Thursday 4-8 pm at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road, Grosse Pointe Woods. Scripture service Thursday 7 pm. Mr. Cordova will lie in state Friday 9:30 am until time of funeral Mass 10 am at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 15004 Hampton, Grosse Pointe Park. The interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
