
Gary LeRoy Brown was born in Detroit, MI on November 27, 1942 to Teddy Brown and Delphine Bertels. He was raised in Detroit and was a graduate of Southeastern High School. After graduating he served in the Army Corps of Engineers in Germany. He was honorably discharged as a Specialist 4th rank in 1967. Gary was a proud veteran and had a profound love for his country the rest of his life.
In March, 1965 he met the love of his life and wife of 54 years, Kathleen Damman. They raised two children together and have been longtime residents of Grosse Pointe, MI. Later, they welcomed their two beautiful grandchildren who in his opinion are perfect in every way. Gary had a deep love of sailing and spent much of his early adult years sailing the Great Lakes. He raced the Port Huron to Mackinac and the Port Huron to Alpena races several times. He also enjoyed a lifelong hobby of shooting sporting clays and skeet with his close friends.
Gary began his career in sales in 1964 in sales. He founded LeMica Corporation in 1975 with his business partner of 45 years, Richard Diethelm. Based in Detroit, the company manufactures doors for the cabinet reface industry.
Gary’s passion was his family, including the many Labradors who shared his life. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen, and children Dawn (Stokes Baker) and Douglas (Jerrie Lovell). He has two grandchildren, Emily and Alexander. Other family members include brother-in-law Richard Damman (and the late Kathleen) and sister-in-law Margaret Damman Napoletano (Michael). He is also survived by five nephews.
